Baby Son Wilder – Biography

Laura and Almanzo had a baby son that only lived a few weeks after birth.  It is known he was sickly after birth, but it is not known exactly what the cause of death was.  Presumably because of his ill health, he was not named.  This period and the baby’s birth and death is depicted in the book The First Four Years, detailing the hard few years after Laura and Almanzo married.

He was born on July 11, 1889.  He died 27 days later on August 7, 1889.

Baby Boy Wilder is buried in the De Smet cemetery, with his gravestone marked as “Baby Son of A. J. Wilder” on it.
