Guide to Walnut Grove

Walnut Grove, Minnesota in the Present

The dugout property is privately owned by the Gordon Family, but is available to be seen my tourists. The dugout is no longer there, but the depression of where it is can be seen. A new bridge crosses Plum Creek to reach the dugout site. If one looks carefully at Plum Creek, it can be seen where the creek originally was, as it has moved over the years away from the dugout site side.

The church bell, which Pa donated his boot money to pay for, is still used for church services in a Lutheran Church. There are markers before buildings in Walnut Grove which were present in Laura's time, or that have historical relevance.

The museum features a large book store where fans can purchase souvenirs and books. A handmade quilt by Laura on display in the museum. Grandma's House should not be missed, which features the Kelton Doll Collection.

It is in Walnut Grove where the TV series, Little House on the Prairie is based on, and the museum has autographed photos of Alison Arngrim, Katherine MacGregor, Melissa Sue Anderson and Karen Grassle. There are also various momentos from the show, including a wooden repica of the Ingalls house on the show. Members of Michael Landon's Family Visited Walnut Grove in 1997.
