Dress up as your favorite Little House character with these costumes designed for both girls and women in a variety of styles.

There are several patterns of pioneer dresses available for Little House fans, both in child size and adult size.  Most call for calico (cotton) fabric and can be easily made up by those with basic sewing skills.

Many of the sewing patterns have a wide range of sizes, up to women’s size 22.

If you aren’t a sewer, we have a page with Little House on the Prairie Dress Up Ideas for inspiration on how to create  your own pioneer costume.

Here are some of the most popular sewing patterns so you can role play as Laura or your favorite Little House character.

McCalls Pioneer Outfits

These patterns, for both women and girls, are the most popular costumes, and I have sewn many dresses and bonnets from these costumes over the years.

Simplicity Historical Dresses for Women

I love this pattern because while it is historical to the era, it isn’t the traditional calico dress with apron and bonnet that so many of us end up sewing.  So while I love the traditional bonnet/apron/calico dress option, I like this because it is more suited to a visiting or church dress, and not an everyday dress.

Historical Cloaks

If you are looking to make a cape or a cloak to go with a dress, this pattern (which is out of print, so grab it if you can find it) features multiple styles of cloaks similar to what Laura would have worn.

If you have trouble finding that pattern, here is another, although it is quite elaborate in comparison, more suited for a special occasion of the era.
