When Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the Little House book series, Farmer Boy was the second book published, which was about the life of her future husband Almanzo Wilder when he was a little boy in New York State. And in later books, Almanzo reappears, first as a resident in De Smet, South Dakota, and later as a beau for Laura.
Because his character was so popular, many had wondered if there were any other books about Almanzo, either published or unpublished, about Almanzo or his siblings Royal, Eliza Jane or Alice, who all also appeared prominently in the books.
Other than Farmer Boy, and some adapted picture books and chapter books for younger readers, Laura did not write any further books from Almanzo’s point of view as a boy or young man.
However, a novel was published detailing a somewhat fictionalized version of Almanzo’s life when he moves west to Spring Valley, Minnesota, where the Wilder family would settle after leaving New York State.
