Before becoming a published author of children’s book writer, Laura Ingalls Wilder had a variety of jobs. Some of them were detailed in the Little House books, such as her time as a schoolteacher as well as
Laura began teaching school in towns near De Smet when she was 15 years old.
Laura worked as a seamstress and dressmaker, some of which were told in Little Town on the Prairie and These Happy Golden Years
Laura and Almanzo worked as homesteaders on their farm in De Smet, as well as in Missouri on Rocky Ridge Farm.
Laura wrote regularly about farm life in the Missouri Ruralist.
Laura spoke about various aspects of her life, such as speaking with groups in the Missouri region about both pioneer living and poultry farming.

She worked at the local Farm Loan Association, where she was responsible for giving small loans to local farmers in need of funds.
