Little House in the Big Woods begins in 1870 as a little girl living with her family near Pepin, Wisconsin, and ends in 1885, the year Laura Ingalls Wilder marries Almanzo Wilder.
The book First Four Years, which some consider as the last book in the Little House series, despite being published after Laura’s death, covers the first four years of their marriage living in De Smet, South Dakota.
Although Little House in the Big Woods opens with “sixty years ago,” this was due to the fact the book was originally published in 1932.
