Frontier Teachers: Stories Of Heroic Women Of The Old West

Male teachers were more popular on the frontier, primarily because there often weren’t enough available unmarried women.  Here are the stories of some of those women who taught school in the Old West and the challenges they faced in these one-room classrooms on the prairie, as teaching was one of the few jobs that were available to respectable young women at the time.
