Burr Oak in the Present
The Masters Hotel has been restored to appear like an 1870’s inn, looking much like Laura would have remembered it. It is the only childhood home of Laura’s that is still standing on the site it stood when she lived in it.
Guided tours are given through the house, with one of the final stops being the actual bedroom that the entire Ingalls family lived in. It was located just off of the kitchen, which was convenient for Caroline who worked in the kitchen, cooking and serving meals to the guests.
The hotel is furnished in period artifacts, such as quilts, clothing, the kitchen items, and furniture. In the basement, there are scrap books filled with articles about Laura, and about the Masters hotel being refurnished.
Also are the various Little House books in a great variety of languages, which visitors can look at. Also to look at are several of Les Kelly’s photograph books which were published in Japan.
