Cuba in the Past
When Laura wrote about her Pa growing up in New York, it was Cuba, New York she was referring to. Charles Ingalls was born on a farm in Cuba, New York on January 10, 1836. Several members of the Ingalls family had settled there prior to 1835, and several Ingalls brothers all had adjoining farmlands.
Unfortunately, it is not known exactly where the home is located where Charles Ingalls was born. Several homes still standing in the area are known to have been built around that era, and were owned by various members of the Ingalls family, so one could have been the one he was born in.
Charles Ingalls lived there until 1842 when the entire Ingalls family relocated to Illinois (they later moved to Wisconsin). Laura’s great-grandmother, Margaret Delano died in Cuba, NY.
