Pepin Wisconsin
Pepin, Wisconsin is where Little House in the Big Woods took place, and where Laura was born. Many of the Ingalls family members also lived in the area.
Unfortunately, the “Big Woods” as Laura described it are no longer standing. But there are many features of the area, such as Lake Pepin where fans can go and experience it as Laura did so many years ago. There is also a replica Little House that has been rebuilt in the same place where the Ingalls had their own log house, where you can see just how tiny of a house Laura and her entire family lived in during their time in Pepin.
Although not depicted in the books, Laura and her family returned to Pepin, Wisconsin and the Big Woods after they lived in what is now Independence, Kansas, before they set out for Walnut Grove, Minnesota and the setting for On the Banks of Plum Creek.
