The Singing School Lyrics

Lyrics by John Hodges

Oh, childhood’s joys are very great
A swingin’ on his mother’s gate
A eatin’ candy till his mouth
Is all stuck up from north to south
And other things he likes quite well
That I ain’t time just here to tell
But though I have to mind the rule
I’d rather go to the singing school!

Chorus:
Oh the singing school’s beautiful
Oh, the singing school’s beautiful
If you’ll have me for your teacher
I shall be a happy creature
For I dote upon the singing school
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
The singing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing-ing
School

And it’s considered very nice
To skare upon the frize up ice
Unless you chance to fall ker whack!
And thereby cause your head to crack
And when you go from home to dine
A roasted turkey’s very fine
But still I think it’s more joyful
To go-o-o to singing school

Chorus

Some think that nothing’s half so good
As oysters roasted, fried or stewed
And others think the pleasure’s more
A-slidin’ on a cellar door
So some think this and some think that
But all agree there’s greater sat-
isfaction to be always had
At singing school as I have said

Chorus

Oh, sweet the breath of dewy morn
A-blowing sadly through the corn
While golden rays of mstic light
Is heard upon the dawn of light
But superfine, ecstatic bliss
you’ll always find and never miss
If you will only mind this rule
And always go to singing school

Chorus
