Not much is known about Almanzo Wilder’s life between the time when he was a young boy in Malone, New York and when he reappeared in De Smet, South Dakota in the later Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
There is a book published which offers a fictionalized look at the Wilder family when they made the difficult decision to leave New York and travel west, settling in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
Farmer Boy Goes West covers the family’s preparations for the journey west and the life they discovered once arriving in their new home of Spring Valley.
