This book is written in the style of the original Little House books, describing Mary’s life as a young blind woman attending school for the first time since she lost her sight. She learns how to live independently at the Iowa College for the Blind without Laura there to lead and help her. At the school she learns how to live without sight, learning to read in Braille and how to live life fully when she returns home to De Smet after college.
