On Little House on the Prairie TV show, Mary Ingalls meets Adam at the Burton School for the blind where he was a teacher, and she was originally a student. They fall in love and get married. But a year after the couple is married, Adam is injured in an accident, and he then discovers his eyesight is restored, in the episode To See the Light (Part One).
After he regains his eyesight, Adam decides to go to school to become a lawyer, as he had planned to do before he lost his eyesight as a child in a previous accident.
Adam becomes Walnut Grove’s lawyer, but he and Mary decide to move away to New York where he can practice law in his family’s law office.
Adam does not lose his sight again after this time. Mary does not regain her sight during the show either.
