During the episode He was Only Twelve of Little House on the Prairie, James Cooper is shot in a bank robbery. He ends up being in a coma, and Charles Ingalls and other family members don’t believe he is going to survive. This episode is quite religious, with Charles reading the Bible and praying, building a stone shrine in hopes of a miracle.
James does end up surviving, despite the episode of the title using the past tense, to make people suspect he would end up dying on the show.
This episode was also the official ending of The Little House on the Prairie television series, as the next season would be rebranded as Little House: A New Beginning with the focus on Laura and Almanzo. And many people felt that this episode, especially that it focused on James, was a letdown for being what was essentially a series finale that many characters did not appear in.
