Is There a Real Walnut Grove?

The Little House on the Prairie TV show takes place in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, which is also the primary setting for the book On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  And while some of the locations in the show are made up, Walnut Grove actually does exist.

Fans of both the shows and the books can visit Walnut Grove and visit the property that the Ingalls lived on when they resided in Walnut Grove, as well as a replica dugout.  The museum has memorabilia from both the real Laura Ingalls Wilder as well as from the TV show, and actors from the show periodically visit for special events.

For more on Walnut Grove, including learning about Walnut Grove in the past, in the present and more about the museum, see our section on the Historical Laura Ingalls Wilder Walnut Grove Site.

If you are more interested in the Walnut Grove from the show, learn more about where they filmed the show and our fun Visitor’s Guide to TV’s Walnut Grove.
