Was Nellie Oleson’s Hair Real or a Wig?

Many will recall Nellie Oleson’s perfect ringlets in the Little House on the Prairie TV Show, with blonde ringlets in perfect rings framing her face.

She wore the same ringlet hairstyle throughout the years, although sometimes while wearing a bonnet or night cap.  Occasionally, usually while involving a mishap with Laura, her ringlets became soggy, but still hung somewhat in a wet ringlet style.  But how did she get those perfect ringlets?

Alison Angrim, who portrayed Nellie Oleson, wore a wig throughout all the filming.  It wasn’t the same wig for all the seasons, but she had multiple wigs she wore throughout the series in order to get the perfect ringlet style Nellie had, and that Laura wrote about in the original books, particularly On the Banks of Plum Creek where Laura was envious of Nellie’s perfect curls.
