Episode Summary:
In this heartfelt coming-of-age story, Johnny Johnson, a familiar figure in Walnut Grove, finds himself longing for more than small-town life. After a quarrel with his father and listening to Mr. Edwards’ tales of adventure, Johnny becomes determined to leave home and “see the world”.
Though Mr. Edwards had only meant to entertain, he quickly realizes that his stories have inspired Johnny in the wrong way. Despite trying to talk him out of it, Johnny won’t be swayed. Eventually, Mr. Edwards reluctantly helps Johnny get a ride to Sleepy Eye, hoping the boy will learn some life lessons on his own.
Worried for Johnny’s safety and naivety, Mr. Edwards devises a plan to teach him a lesson the hard way. He arranges for Johnny to play in a rigged poker game, expecting him to lose all his money and want to come home. But the plan backfires when Johnny wins more money than expected, boosting his confidence even further.

Unbeknownst to him, Mimi is part of Mr. Edwards’ plan, paid to help Johnny see the truth about the world outside Walnut Grove.
