Episode Summary
In the Season 7 premiere, “Laura Ingalls Wilder (Part One),” life is changing rapidly for Laura and Almanzo as they begin building their future together. Almanzo Wilder purchases farmland with the dream of building a homestead for him and Laura. To help get the land up and running, he brings in an old friend, Harv Miller (played by guest star James Cromwell), from Sleepy Eye.
Meanwhile, Eliza Jane Wilder, Almanzo’s sister and Walnut Grove’s schoolteacher, finds herself quietly smitten with Harv. But her usual reserve and awkwardness around romance prevent her from expressing her feelings—setting the stage for some bittersweet tension.
At the same time, Laura is offered a teaching position in a neighboring town, bringing her face-to-face with her first experience living and working away from home. While this new role signals her maturity and ambition, it also introduces new obstacles to her relationship with Almanzo.
The biggest blow comes when Almanzo discovers he’s been swindled in the land purchase. Despite his efforts to seek justice, he learns that he has no legal recourse, which puts his dreams—and their future—at risk.
